Put Some Respect On Mike McCarthy’s Name

It’s time to stop talking about the Cowboys if you’re not willing to pat Mike McCarthy on the back.

Lately it feels like everyone other than the Head Coach has been credited in Dallas.

This goes deeper than 2023…which is far from an insignificant season for Mike.

He said, “F it I’ll do it myself” and took over play calling duties.

Let’s zoom out though…

There has been 9 coaches in the history of the Dallas Cowboys.

Mike McCarthy has a better winning percentage than all of them.

Keep in mind, that includes 3 Hall of Famers:

Dallas was down bad before McCarthy arrived.

They suffered through 10 years of The Clapper and won 2 playoff games.

From 2015 to 2020 (which is Pre-McCarthy), they ranked as a top 5 offense just once.

Fast forward to today, and this will be the 3rd straight year in which McCarthy has the Boys in the top 5.

2023 is the most meaningful though.

The Cowboys rank 1st overall with McCarthy himself dialing up the plays.

Even more impressive (and less discussed) is how they’re bottom of the league in giveaways.

Defense is the same story.

Dallas has now been top 10 in points allowed for 3 years straight.

Think about it like this…

When was the last time Dallas ranked so high (on both sides of the ball) for 3 straight years?

We have to rewind the clock 31 years to the most prolific era of Cowboys football.

That’s right…

McCarthy’s stats can only be compared to an era where Dallas wasn’t just winning games…

They were on top of the world winning Super Bowls.

When the Cowboys show up in the playoffs this year, don’t forget about Mike McCarthy.
