Mr. Irrelevant Was Much Cooler In The 70's 🏈

The Battle For Mr. Irrelevant

Brock Purdy has made Mr. Irrelevant cool, but not even close to as cool as it used to be in the 70’s.

The last pick never really mattered
until one draft when something absurd happened.

A former 10th round pick named Paul Salata created the idea of Mr. Irrelevant.

He even started started Mr. Irrelevant week.

It included a celebration, a trip to Disney Land and a welcome party.

Suddenly, Mr. Irrelevant was anything but irrelevant.

A couple years later, things got out of hand.

The Steelers were coming off a Super Bowl win and were tasked with making the final pick.

The Rams had a sneaky idea though. They loved the idea of the celebration.

It was going to be great a publicity stunt, so they passed on their final pick, forcing the Steelers to pick before them.

It was all going great, until the Steelers decided to one up them.

They wanted the celebration as well, and what happened next can only be described as a game of irrelevant hot potato.

They went back and forth deferring on the pick until the Commissioner was forced to step in.

He awarded the pick to the Pittsburgh and created a rule that the final team has to make their pick.

When it was all said and done the Steelers drafted a receiver named Mike Almond
who never played a down in the NFL
