The LA Rams Private Draft System 🧠

The Rams Private Draft System

The LA Rams are using a private system to gain a huge advantage in the NFL draft.

In back to back years their system has been dominant.

More specifically…it’s crushing the 5th round.

In 2022 it led them to take Kyren Williams - who may be the 2nd best back in the NFL.

In 2023 it highlighted Puka Nacua - who just became the NFL’s all-time rookie leader in receptions and yards.

Puka is the perfect example of why this system works.

Everyone is talking about him right now as a draft steal, but he was never that to the Rams.

Of course I don’t know exactly how their system works.

If I had it then other teams would too and it wouldn’t be special anymore.

What we do know is it uses player tracking data.

This is similar to stuff what you see on NFL Next Gen commercials.

It captures metrics like location, speed, distance traveled, and acceleration for every player on every play.

Now according to the Rams playing tracking data Puka (who only caught 48 balls as a senior at BYU)…

Was highlighted as a 99th percentile athlete.

Now on the surface that seems impossible.

If you’re a top athlete at WR you don’t slip outside the 2nd round.

We’ve seen guys like John Ross and Darrius Hayward-Bey go in the top 10 just by crushing the 40 yard dash.

The amazing and borderline scary part of this is the Rams computers seem to be calculating for what was always a very human test..

The eye test.

They’re giving us the definition of “football fast”

A guy like John Ross who I mentioned earlier ran a 4.2 forty, but never seemed that fast on the field.

Puka ran a 4.5, but seems much faster than that with the pads on.

We’ve all known the NFL combine wasn’t an efficient way of measuring talent for a long time.

The Rams are just the first team with a proven solution.
