Knicks May Get A Redo For Brunson Call ✍🏼

Knicks Protesting Brunson Call

The Knicks might get a redo for the awful foul call on Jalen Brunson.

They’re officially protesting and my first thoughts were:

  • How does that even work?

  • Do they replay the game?

  • Do they switch the call?

  • Does the league ever uphold these protests?

I dug deep and the answers might surprise you.

A successful protest is extremely rare - there have been just 6 in NBA history.

The NBA doesn’t judge protests on whether the refs made a good or bad call.

They will only rule in a team’s favor if the refs misapplied a rule.

A perfect example is the most recent successful protest.

In ’07 the Heat were down to the final minute with the Hawks.

After committing a foul, the refs ruled it was Shaq’s 6th and final foul.

He sat for the final 51 seconds as the Heat lost the game.

In reality it was only Shaq’s 5th foul.

After a protest, the league fixed their mistake by wiping off the final 51 seconds and resuming the game at a later date.

The outcome didn’t change. Neither team scored in the new 51 seconds.

In fact, Shaq wasn’t even on the team anymore when they resumed.

He had already been traded to the Suns.

Now I doubt the Knicks win their protest, but if they do…the game would resume in OT.
