The NBA has a flopping problem. The fix is embarrassingly simple.

Every time you see a shameless flop in the NBA, the first thought that should cross your mind is that the league is actively choosing to let it happen.

It is disgusting to watch and while I wish players had enough integrity to not do it, they will keep doing it because they are rewarded for it.

If you want to be mad at anyone, it has to be Adam Silver plus the competition committee, not the players.

They have done nothing meaningful to stop it, even though the solution is sitting right in front of them.

Most fans do not even realize that flopping is already in the rulebook as a technical foul.

It is almost never called. This season there were 84 total flop calls across the entire league.

To put that in perspective, if you watched all 82 games from your favorite team, you saw on average just 5 flop calls the entire year.

Step one has to be instructing referees to actually call it, as clearly it’s not enough to fine players after the fact.

Flopping needs to negatively impact your team's ability to win games in real time.

This is not some radical concept for the league. One of the points of emphasis this season was instructing refs to call more high five fouls on jump shots.

They already know how to tell referees to prioritize something. They just have not done it with flopping.

Step two is fixing the fines, which right now are a complete joke.

Most fans probably do not realize that the first offense is not even a fine. It’s a warning.

After that, fines start at $2,000.

For context, SGA's current contract pays $68 million per season. A $2,000 fine on that salary is the equivalent of fining someone who makes $100,000 a year roughly 54 cents.

To make this meaningful, fines should start around $50,000 and quickly escalate into suspensions.

The goal is the same as step one. It needs to negatively impact teams so that coaches will tell their guys to cut it out.

Think about how easy of a win this is for the league.

Do you know a single NBA fan who enjoys flopping being such a big part of the game?

Adam Silver has had a rough stretch between tanking, load management, and off court scandals.

The easiest win he could possibly get is if he takes control this summer and comes back in the fall with an aggressive anti flopping campaign.
